About two thousand seven hundred years ago, people called Celts came to Britain from Europe. Grtadually the mixed in with the people who were already there. All those living in Britain became known as Britons. They were devided into groups called tribes. Many Britons lived in round houses, which were grouped in small villages. Houses were made of wood with mud plaster inside.

People came to the towns to swap food and animals from their farms for potery, jewellery,silver and iron goods. Prisoners captured in war were sold as slaves. Slaves were chained with iron collars.
